Innovations Family Outreach will be providing FREE, high quality, experienced, accessible breastfeeding support, healthy food choice examples (community specific), along with health and fitness education to areas where access to these services are extremely limited.
Increase initiation of breastfeeding rates. Increase duration of breastfeeding to the World Health Organization's recommendation of 2 years of age. Decrease infant mortality rates. Teach families how to shop for "real, live food" on a budget and how to prepare it. Decrease incidence of high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity.
"Infants who are not breastfed experience more episodes of diarrhea, ear infections, and lower respiratory tract infections and are at higher risk of sudden infant death syndrome, diabetes, and obesity." (CDC, 2013)
Provide mobile breastfeeding support along with health and fitness education. Innovations Family Outreach will travel to various locations in the Tulsa Metroplex that have been classified as "food deserts" or where breastfeeding support is not readily available.
Community outreach, home visits, physical and mental health education and support, along with fitness coaching and guidance are imperative to us changing our trajectory. Access to healthy foods in every community. Access to above average health care. Access to EDUCATION! Beyond just saying eat a healthy diet! A healthy diet means something different to each of us based on our education, our experiences and our access to REAL LIVE FOOD.
If we can increase our numbers in Oklahoma and normalize breastfeeding statewide we will all benefit! It takes a village! Every human baby deserves human milk!
Our sponsor this month is Coalition of Oklahoma Breastfeeding Advocates(COBA). Thank you COBA for helping to provide this wonderful FREE service for Tulsa breastfeeding families!
