Last year we had 79 people attend, including men, women and children. This event is to bring communities together. We strive to have many different people from different socioeconomic, racial and cultural backgrounds.
Healthy People 2010 (2011) calls for a decrease in US infant mortality and an elimination of the racial disparity in infant mortality rates (Healthy People, 2020).
The most significant findings regarding perinatal epidemiological research are: the large socio-economic disparities in their birth outcomes such as perinatal and infant mortality, low birth weight, and preterm birth (Kramer et al., 2001).
“The cognitive and physical development of infants and children is influenced by the health, nutrition, and behaviors of their mothers during pregnancy and early childhood. Breast milk is widely acknowledged to be the most complete form of nutrition for most infants, with a range of benefits for their health, growth, immunity, and development”(Healthy People, 2020).
Our black babies and mama's are dying at alarming rates. Home visits, physical and mental health education and support, along with fitness coaching and guidance are imperative to us changing our trajectory. Access to healthy foods in our community. Access to above average health care. Access to EDUCATION! Beyond just saying eat a healthy diet! A healthy diet means something different to each of us based on our education and our access to REAL LIVE FOOD.
Mother's know their bodies and their babies. As a health care provider it is my responsibility to give mama's the tools they need to raise healthy, functioning adults. This may mean fixing the mama first and that has to be okay. Mama's don't let your healthcare providers ignore the problems you may be experiencing. Don't just take medicine to cover up the symptoms, of course if you need it until the source is found or remedied please follow your Dr's instructions. Find a healthcare provider who will treat your Whole Person. Improve you gut health, mental health & physical health. GET IN SHAPE! Mind, Body and Spirit!
Together we can help end disparities in not only in socioeconomically disadvantaged women, but in all of us, with quality education and therapeutic support. Birth is a blessing for all women, no matter their socioeconomic status. “Behold, Children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward” (Psalm 127:3)
The first mama's to arrive will have their choice of 40+ various styles of nursing bras, maternity pants and nursing tanks, until they are GONE! Thank you! #LeadingLady.
